Oregon Journalism Education Association proudly Presents SUMMER ADVISER WORKSHOPS

UCLA SUMMER SESSIONS

• Currently attending a high school in the state of California;
• Have not received any UCLA Summer Scholars Support in the past;
• Will be a continuing high school student in Fall 2018 (seniors graduating in 2018 are not eligible);
• Have a family annual adjusted gross income of $115,000 or less; and
• Enrolled in 2018 UCLA Summer Sessions, either an academic course or an eligible Precollege Summer Institute. Deferred payment of the deposit required for enrollment is available to those who meet additional need-based criteria.

BERKELEY M.E.T. PROGRAM

• Earn two full bachelor’s degrees -- in engineering and in business -- in four years

• Penn Engineering offers a unique program for a selective group of high school students (rising 10th- 12th graders). Our three-week Engineering Summer Academy at Penn or ESAP combines theory with hands-on practical experience in cutting-edge technologies.
• Students can earn college credit in one of our six programs: Biotechnology, Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Complex Networks, Nanotechnology, and Robotics.

Summer Discovery- Pre-College Enrichment for High School Students

The Summer Science Program

• Camp Psych- Campers will get hands-on experiences that introduce them to research in psychology during this fun, challenging, and engaging introduction to the field.
• Campaigns and Elections Academy- This program is designed for highly-motivated students who have a strong interest in American campaigns and elections. Participants learn about the origins and evolution of democracy in America and gain hands-on experiences related to modern political campaigns. *Application will go live in early February.
• Writing Camp- Students gain an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen.
• 3D Object Modeling and Printing Camp-Students will study 3D object modeling and printing starting with the basics of a 3D printer. After learning the fundamentals, they will practice designing objects.
• Adruino Camp- Students will use their creativity and the easy-to-learn Arduino to create projects with its sensors, motors, speakers and displays, to create projects that interact with them and their world.
• Civil War Institute Summer Conference- The High School Student Scholarship component of Gettysburg College's annual Civil War Institute summer conference provides high school students an opportunity to explore the history of the Civil War era on the site of the war's most decisive battle.

5. Kaiser Permanente's Summer Youth Employment Program provides underserved or at-risk high school students with supportive and meaningful employment experiences in the health care field. Also known as L.A.U.N.C.H. (Learn About Unlimited New Careers in Healthcare), participants attend educational sessions and motivational workshops that introduce them to the possibilities of pursuing a career in health care. Many former program participants are now employed at Kaiser Permanente as nurses, department administrators, lab technicians, opticians and engineers.​​​​​​​

8. California State Summer School For The Arts (CSSSA) A four-week summer arts program at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. Otis College of Art and Design's Summer of Art 2016 (July 5th - July 29th) This four-week college preparation program provides artists ages 15 and older with a college immersion experience in art and design, whether they would like to enhance their skills or just have a strong interest in art or design. Students participate in hands-on studio classes and labs with award-winning, practicing professionals. Housing is available for students ages 15-18 and scholarships are available based on financial need and/or merit. National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine: This unique summer experience is your chance to gain real-world medical career experience and explore professional opportunities in the expanding fields of medicine and health care. 15. The United States Presidential Scholars Program The Unites States Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of the Nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Each year over 4000 candidates are identified for the component of the program that focuses on academic achievement based on having scored exceptionally well on the SAT or the ACT. 16. Northfield Mount Hermon Summer Secession (July 2 - August 6, 2016): During the summer of 2016, Northfield Mount Hermon Summer session will offer three programs: College Prep, Middle School, and English as a Second Language. Their college Prep Program is unique in that students engage in intensive study of one subject; they complete the equivalent of a year-long course, and possibly earn credit, in just 5 weeks.     The Summer TIDE Program is a 13-day instructional camp for high school students. This summer program focuses on the atmospheric, oceanic, and biogeochemical processes at work in the Delaware Bay.​​​​​​​

27. Youth Heritage Summit California
    APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 24, 2016
    Students from Southern and Central California will be invited to Cesar E. Chavez National Monument to explore this site affiliated with the life and career of Cesar E. Chavez and the presence of the United Farm Workers of America. This program is implemented with the goal that participants will aspire to build careers in fields such as heritage conservation, architecture, archaeology, history, and comparable fields of study.
