MEET THE RESEDA CHARTER ATHLETIC COACHES

Athletic Director

Mr. Gary Filtzanidis

As athletic director, I strongly believe that many of life’s most important lessons and habits can be learned through participation in extra-curricular activities. Attributes such as work ethic, dependability, self-motivation, and self-discipline can all be learned while playing sports. Sports are a great tool that can be used to teach life lessons. A successful athletic department should strive to educate the entire child. Sports can teach young adults things that cannot be learned in a classroom. Athletics can teach our future workforce how to be successful in whatever endeavor they choose to engage in. We must prepare students to be successful in their lives after they leave school. Sports and extra-curricular activities are vital to a complete and well-rounded education.

Assistant Athletic Director and Competitive Cheerleading

Coach Michelle Brait

As a coach and Assistant Athletic Director, I strive to develop both mentally and physically strong and confident young adults. I strive to foster a positive learning environment that challenges athletes to reach beyond their comfort zone and achieve their full potential. I believe that student-athletes are students first; athletics is a privilege and academics are equally if not more important. By setting high standards and expectations, I strive to teach valuable life lessons: integrity, work ethic, mutual respect, accountability, mental toughness, perseverance, resilience, and a high level of commitment. I am dedicated to building champion athletes who are prepared to thrive in the next phase of life beyond high school.

Football

Coach Alonso Arreola

Our philosophy of football is based on the values of family, a positive attitude, and teamwork. Our program is successful because we share responsibilities, promote accountability, care for one another, cherish discipline, and understand that being part of the Reseda Football Program is a privilege.

Boys' Soccer

Coach Mo Burgess

Coach the entire player. Coaching is teaching and my players should be better at all aspects of the game, schooling, work ethic, and empathy. My purpose is to help them learn to hone individual skills and work together to achieve a common goal.

Girls' Soccer

Coach Samatha Lopez

Ubuntu- It’s not I made a goal, It’s we made a goal.

Girls' Volleyball

Coach Paul Reyes

No matter what skill level you are at, my goal is always to just get you to the next level. Once that next level is reached, we work on taking those next steps to continuously grow as an athlete. My coaching philosophy is to promote intrinsic motivation within an athlete.  I want them to want to play and get better for themselves, not for a coach. I do this by creating a welcoming and positive environment to work on their sport.  I want every player to look forward to coming to practice and games and activities, and not think of it as a chore.

Boys' Basketball

Coach Colin Jamerson

Win Everyday Philosophy: To create a positive learning environment that encourages players to learn and develop on and off the court to their fullest potential through basketball. I want my players to understand that their "real life" is bigger than their "basketball life." Therefore, to me it's about building relationships with my players as people first and as players second.

Softball

Coach Emily Braverman

I believe that everyone has an opportunity to grow whether it be in sport, attitude, studies or life. I strive to create an environment that encourages student-athletes to learn as much as they can and to be able to use some skills in their everyday life. I believe sports are not just games but a place where student-athletes can find comfort, accountability, responsibility and confidence in themselves.

Girls' Basketball, Girls' Track and Field, and Girls' Cross Country

Coach Jarriet Harris

Work Hard, Play Hard, Play with Integrity

Cross Country, Track & Field

Coach Hector Mendoza

"You don't fail until you stop trying"

Boys’ Volleyball

Coach Don Padilla

Not only winning is important, but winning in life is crucial. I teach kids (adults) about research, preparation, hard work, practice, mindset, and execution. I don't see myself as a volleyball coach- more of a life mentor that provides kids and or adults with skills and confidence to reach the next level.
